History

The forerunner of the NvMA was actually the Nevada Mine Operators Association founded in 1912. At that time Nevada's powerful mining industry faced issues in labor and the safety and health of its workers. Mine operators from Ruth (near Ely), Tonopah and Goldfield were involved in those early days. The Association in its current form was established in 1952 when copper was king. Today, gold is the mineral resource providing the largest revenues, employment and economic contribution to the state of Nevada.

Mining has always been one of the cornerstones of Nevada's economy, and the Nevada Mining Association is proud to have served its members and Nevada for more than ninety years.

Mining in Nevada has a fascinating history that is deeply rooted in the very fabric of the state.  It was the great "Comstock Lode" silver discoveries at Virginia City that led to Nevada becoming a state in 1864.
