Water Use

Water use in Nevada is an important issue for a State that averages 9 inches of rain per year.  The wise use and conservation of this limited resource must be at or near the top of everyone’s priority list.

Companies mining in Nevada that are members of the Nevada Mining Association believe this to be true and in their operations are taking steps to insure its wise use and conservation.

According to information from the Nevada Division of Water Resources, it is estimated that in 2005 the mining industry’s consumptive use of water amounted to 282,708 acre-feet of water or 6.5% of the State’s yearly water withdrawl total.   Significantly,only 33% of this amount was actually consumed by mining.
