Nevada Mining: Supporting America’s Heroes

On Veteran’s Day, we thank the heroic men and women who have or are currently serving our nation. Whether establishing job programs, sponsoring educational opportunities, or producing the minerals that keep troops safe, Nevada mining believes in giving back to the people that defend our freedom.

The skillsets and leadership abilities veterans acquire during their service make them a great fit for a career in the Nevada mining industry. Programs like Coeur Mining’s Coeur Heroes program not only recruits and hires veterans, but also provides on-the-job training and mentorships with other veterans working at the company.

Education

For veterans looking to advance their education, Elko’s Great Basin College offers the Operation Bravo program. Bravo pairs veteran students with scholarship and internship opportunities, including mining related programs. Named after Elko native Marine Lance Cpl. Raul Bravo, who lost his life while serving in Iraq, Bravo was launched in part with a $75,000 donation from Barrick Gold.

Producing the Minerals that protect our troops

Nevada produces more than 20 minerals essential to our daily life, including several used by our armed forces. Molybdenum is in the stainless steel used to construct military ships and jets. Copper, gold, and silver are used to power technologies. Rare earth minerals are used in missile guidance systems.

Thank you to our veterans!
