Safety Share: Halloween

Ghouls and goblins will be out trick or treating this Halloween, which means young children will be out at night. Here are some safety tips on how kids and the kids at heart can celebrate safely:

Safety Share: Halloween - Nevada Mining Association - 1Be visible

  • Wear lighter colored costumes and fire-resistant wigs.
  • Carry reflective candy bags.
  • Use face paint instead of masks. Masks can obstruct vision.

Walkers

  • Younger children should be accompanied by an adult
  • If going out on their own, kids and their guardians should have a route pre-planned and an agreed-on return time.
  • Use crosswalks. Don’t jaywalk.
  • Never enter a stranger’s house.
  • Stay in well-lit areas.
  • Check candy for younger children to make sure there are no choking hazards (gum/hard candies).
  • Carry a glowstick to be more visible.

Drivers

  • Drive slowly in neighborhoods where children may be present. Keep an especially close eye out for children in dark clothing.
  • Watch when pulling in and out of driveways.
  • Watch when making turns for kids crossing the road.
  • Remove distractions from your car. Eyes should be on the road.
  • Do not drink and drive.
