Virginia City was home to 41st annual International Collegiate Mining Games, March 20-22. Forty teams representing four continents traveled to northern Nevada, competing in seven different events that use traditional mining methods in for different divisions (men’s, women’s, co-ed, and alumni).

The University of Nevada, Reno’s Mackay Muckers Mining Team hosted the event and represented the Silver State proudly. For the first time in five years, the Muckers had a team compete in the women’s division. The Lady Muckers finished fourth overall, highlighted by a first-place finish in the muck cart race with a time of 2:28.62, besting their nearest competitor by 24 seconds.

The Muckers men’s team finished third overall with two close second place finishes in the muck cart (2:32.35) and in gold panning (6:32).

The Muckers also competed in the alumni division, finishing second overall, including a pair of first place finishes in handsteel (13 3/32 inches) and in the muck cart (2:29.25).

Missouri University of Science & Technology took first overall in both the women’s and alumni division. Montana Tech won in men’s. Canada’s Queen’s University emerged victorious in the coed division.
