For more than 15 years, Storey County (NV) officials tirelessly worked to raise funds that would enable them to begin construction on the Storey County Youth and Community Resource Center.Officials raised more than $1 million during that time to begin construction on Phase One of the new youth center in July 2010. However, the Community Chest still had to raise an additional $300,000 and finish Phase One construction before April 1, 2011 and avoid $100,000 in estimated re-staging costs for construction.

Barrick Gold Corp. was excited to answer the call for the Storey Community Chest and donated the final $75,000 needed to finish Phase One construction of the youth center on schedule. Barrick’s support helped the project save $100,000 and enabled the Storey Community Chest to provide immediate opportunities for children, families and seniors in Storey and western Lyon counties of Nevada. Phase One construction of the Storey County Youth and Community Resource Center was recently completed, and the official opening was held on Friday, March 25 with community members and contributors in attendance to celebrate nearly two decades of hard work.
