The 2013 Nevada Mining Convention took place Sept. 4 – 7 at the Harrah’s Lake Tahoe. With more than 500 attendees from all around the country, the convention provided the ideal atmosphere for and members of the Nevada Mining Association (NVMA) to network with one another in a variety of activities, outings, panels and receptions.

Day one of the convention began with a board meeting headed by NVMA President Tim Crowley. The meeting included reports from all the NVMA’s committees and was open to all conference attendees. Many of the attendees of the conference intermixed with each other on the Edgewood Golf Course during the conference’s golf tournament. The first day of the convention commenced with the Suppliers Reception honoring the remarkable work and dedication the members of the Nevada Mining Association have contributed this past year. The evening was filled with a variety of entertainment from a savory buffet with traditional Southern treats to a spectacular performance by the Nevada Can-Can girls and cowboy. In addition, a charity poker tournament was held in which a portion of the entry fee benefited the Rita Cannan Elementary School.

Day two of the convention consisted of a variety of recreational events for the attendees to enjoy.  Many attendees were found on the green during round two of the convention’s golf tournament. Other attendees were found taking a scenic gondola ride to the Heavenly Ski Resort. The retreat brought out attendees the creative side when guests painted their version South Lake Tahoe while sampling local wines. Those looking for a more scenic adventure enjoyed hiking, rock climbing and a Tamarack Express chair lift. Settling into the evening of day two, attendees networked during the Chairman’s Reception at the Edgewood Golf Course with a stunning backdrop of South Lake Tahoe’s sunset.

The final day of the convention began with discussion panels from many of the industry’s top experts such as NVMA Chairman Duane Peck and Principal Analyst of Applied Analysis Jeremy Aguero to discuss the current and future state of the mining industry. Aguero provided an in-depth presentation highlighting the mining industry and data supporting the industry’s positive contributions to the Nevada economy in 2012. In addition, state senators Moises Denis and James Settelmeyer and assembly members Maggie Carlton and Pat Hickey joined the convention for a legislative panel and open discussion with the members of the NVMA. Concluding the convention, the association and attendees paid tribute to the top safety practitioners in the industry during a Safety Awards Luncheon. The luncheon recognized 57 honorees for their astounding accomplishments advocating best safety practices on a daily basis through the past year.

The 2013 Mining Convention was a success on many levels, but the biggest successes were the new connections and business opportunities created among professionals from all aspects of the industry. With so many new developments in the mining industry each year, the NVMA looks forward to meeting with our amazing membership once again in September 2014.
